This piece was created as a visual representation of Alzheimer’s; a dreadful disease that consumes not only the mind of the infected, but the lives of family and friends surrounding them.
Clouds lining the work allude to a blank mind as the man walks down the long, unending institutional hallway, where several faded doors loom in front of him. None of them stand out or look quite right, and he does not know which to take, as he doesn’t remember where he is going. He can keep walking indefinitely, with no concept of time to keep him on track, rendering clocks useless. Each day a new unknown plagues him, with questions he had the answers to only the day before. This is often frustrating and frightening, making him very fragile and easily shattering his self-confidence.
The man no longer knows where his home is, he only lives now in his own mind, and the rest of the house is in shambles. His family, wife, children, have to watch him suffer through this mind-thieving disease, being able to only watch from the sidelines or assist only in preventing further damage to his well being. The puzzle pieces represent a home that is no longer quite put together, and never will be again.
